A backward curved centrifugal fan is shaped like a cylinder with several large curved blades and a conical inlet nozzle. The fan blades incline opposite the direction of rotation.
A backward curved centrifugal fan can be used on its own as well as within a scroll because of its mechanisms in creating the airflow.
A backward curved centrifugal fan provides you with high-speed operation that you need in an environment of high static pressure, and it also handles inconsistencies in your facility’s pressure better than forward-curved centrifugal fans.
The optimum operating area for a backward curved centrifugal fan is an area in the middle of its performance characteristic. Above and below the area the fan makes more noise and works less efficiently. But it does not mean the other points on the characteristic curve should not be operated. A backward curved motorized fan does not have a stall point on its characteristic.
